Nikola Kalinic scored two to put Blackburn ahead but Christopher Samba was sent off for fouling Agbonlahor and James Milner converted the penalty. Manchester City came from a goal behind to win 2-1 against Manchester United in the first leg of their Carling Cup Semi final at Eastlands on Tuesday night. Ryan Giggs put United ahead on 17 minutes but Carlos Tevez levelled the score with a penalty on 42 minutes, awarded after Rafael da Silva fouled Craig Bellamy. Tevez then sealed the win with his second goal after 65 minutes. The second leg is next Wednesday at Old Trafford.

Amir Khan, in his first defence of his WBA light-welterweight title, beat American Dmitriy Salita in just 76 seconds in Newcastle on Saturday. In the other two Sunday premier league matches Stoke had a 1-0 win over Portsmouth. Portsmouth missed an early chance to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty in the sixth minute when Rory Delap was judged to have made unfair challenge on Aruna Dindane, but Kevin-Prince Boateng’s penalty was saved by Thomas Sorensen.
Bolton were beaten by Blackburn at home 0-2 with goals from David Dunn and an own goal scored by Samuel Ricketts.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Wigan at White Hart Lane on Sunday by an amazing 9 goals to 1. Jermain Defoe scored five of the goals, all his goals coming in the second half of the match. This score was the biggest winning margin for Spurs in the top flight and highest premier league score since Manchester United beat Ipswich 9-0 in 1995.

Rossi riding for Yamaha only needed to finish in the top four to secure the championship ahead of the final race in Valencia in two weeks’ time.

Australia beat England by an innings and 80 runs to level the Ashes series at Headingly on Sunday.
A very disappointing England, without Pietersen and Flinthoff, didn’t look the same side that beat Australia in the second test. The only bright stars on the horizon were Stuart Broad and Graham Swan who hit 61 and 62 respectively.
England must now win the final test at the Oval which begins next Thursday to win back the Ashes.

Liverpool’s midfielder Xabi Alonso has joined Real Madrid for a fee of £30 million after passing a medical at the Bernabeu on Wednesday.
The 27 year old Spanish international joined Liverpool from Real Sociedad in August 2004 for £10.5m and made 210 first team appearances. Alonso will join his former Liverpool team-mates Alvaro Arbeloa who moved to Real last week and goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek.

England went ahead in just one minute with a goal by Martin Cranie, Nedum Onuoha followed and Mattias Bjarsmyr scored an own goal. England appeared to be in control at half time with a 3-0 lead but Sweden fought back to 3 all with a free kick by Ola Toivonen and two goals from Marcus Berg to force extra time.
England took the first penalty, with James Milner slipping and missing, but Sweden had their first attempt saved by Ian Harte. Each team scored their next four penalties before then Kieran Gibbs scored for England and Molins missed, giving England a much deserved victory.

Andy Murray has reached the second round at Wimbledon with a below par showing against American Robert Kendrick who is ranked 73 places below him. Playing on Centre Court, the Scot from Dunblane won the first set 7-5 but lost the second to a tie-break 6-7 before going on to take the next two 6-3 and 6-4. Andy will play Latvian Ernests Gulbis ranked 74, in the next round.

Wimbledon started on Monday 22nd June with the exciting news that Britain's Andy Murray is seeded No. 3. Andy, ranked 3 in the world standings, is fresh from his victory at Queens at the weekend has a real chance of lifting the trophy this year. No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal who is struggling with a knee injury was due to open this year's tournament on centre court, complete with its new roof, but opted out. World No 1 Dinara Safina is seeded one the women's draw.

The British Grand Prix took place this weekend at Silverstone. Sebastian Vettel driving for Red Bull won the race, his second of the season, after starting in pole position. The 21 year old German's time was 1 hr 22 minutes and 49.33 seconds. Britain's Jenson Button could only finish in sixth place. Jenson still leads the Drivers' Championship with 64 points, 23 points clear of his nearest rival Brazilian Rubens Barrichello.

England's under 21 team blasted their way into the semi-finals of the European Championship with a 2-0 victory over Spain. Fraizer Campbell opened the scoring in the second half and James Milner, who had earlier had a penalty saved by Sergio Asenjo, added the second.
England now play Germany on Monday in their last group game, with the semi-finals to be played on Friday 26th of June.

World number One Ronnie O Sullivan has been knocked out of the 2009 World Championship before the Quarter final stage. The Rocket was trying to keep his title but was misfiring in the final session. Ronnie started the session with a 9-7 lead but lost the opening three frames to find himself 10-9 behind. In the next frame O Sullivan looked on for a 147 but fell short with a 105. The next two frames were shared to make it 11-11, but Mark Allen the 23 year old from Northern Ireland kept his cool to win the match 13-11.

Neil Robertson cruises through to the Quarter Finals of the Betfred.com World Championship by out muscling Ali Carter 13-8. Australian Robertson surged into the next round with victory over the Essex cueman and will face Stephen Maguire next. Left hander Robertson had a 9-7 lead after stealing four of yesterdays last five frames on the black, and the 27 year old from Melbourne was in no mood to let Ali Carter back in to the game. In the final session there were only five frames with the lively Robertson winning four of them, to see him safely over the finish line. After the match Robertson seemed to annoy Carter by over celebrating his victory, Neil was quoted saying
"I think Peter Ebdon was the one who started it,"
Robertson said
"I told Ali at the end of the match that it was nothing personal, it was just sport.”
"If somebody did it to me I wouldn't care.”
"Stephen Maguire bangs his cue, smashes things, but he doesn't do it to put his opponent off - it's just passion.”
"Ebdon was great to watch when he used to go nuts.”
"I think enthusiasts and neutrals that don't know too much about the game would love to see stuff like that.”
"I personally do. If I'm watching a sport which I don't know too much about, and someone is going absolutely nuts, I'll probably carry on watching it." .

Australian Neil Robertson put in a stunning performance to see off 6 time world champion Steve Davis in the first round of the Betfred.com World Championships. Robertson hit a break of 125 in the second frame and went into the interval 7-2 ahead. In the second session Robertson won three quick frames in a row to win comfortably 10-2. Snooker legend Davis went on quote” If he improves as the tournament goes on, he can win it. He's one of the players who can win it.”. Robertson will now go on to play Ali Carter in the last 16.

Lewis Hamilton finished in sixth place in the Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai.
He finished just over a minute behind the winner - German Sebastian Vettel driving for Red Bull-Renault in a rain soaked race.
Lewis driving for McLaren-Mercedes is now in tenth place in the overall championship with four points with Jenson Button still leading with 21.

Ronnie O Sullivan eased through the first round of the Betfred.com World Championship by beating his fellow Essex player Stuart Bingham 10-5. The Rocket hit three centuries, 104, 103 and a seven minute 140 in the second frame, laying down an early marker for the highest break prize. This year there has been a record £304,000 made available for a maximum 147 break, £147,000 for the player plus £10,000 for the highest break and this year Betfred.com will also donate £147,000 to the Sport Relief charity. O Sullivan knows Bingham only to well as they regularly practice together in their home county. Ronnie will now play the winner of the Mark Allen and Martin Gould match in round Two.

Ali carter brushed Gerard Greene aside to book his place in the Betfred.com World Championship. Carter looked in control throughout the best of 19 first round winning 10-5. Ali was 6-1 up at one stage and slipped up to allow Greene to come back in the match at 6-4. Carter the 29 year old from Essex who finished runner up last year is looking to go one better this year and has even promised to put his ambition of being an airline pilot on hold for Ten years, to concentrate fully on his Snooker. This appears to be working as Ali won the Welsh Open in February and is looking in top form for this tournament. With a highest break of 91 Ali is third favourite to win the tournament playing either six-time champion Steve Davis or Australian Neil Robertson in the second round.

Ali Carter was crowned champion of the Welsh Open after beating Northern Irishman Joe Swail 9-5 in the final. Swail led 5-2 until Ali reeled of 7 frames in a row to win the tournament. Carter didn’t have an easy route to the final having to beat Jimmy White, Graeme Dott, Shaun Murphy and Anthony Hamilton before coming up against Swail. Carter is now ranked at number Three in the world.
